Our society has a complicated relationship with simplicity.
On one hand, we say we want it. We talk about slowing down. We admire clean countertops and capsule wardrobes. We share quotes about living intentionally. Bookstores are filled with titles promising decluttered homes, decluttered minds, decluttered lives.
And yet, despite our cultural fascination with simplicity, our homes remain full, our schedules remain crowded, and our attention remains divided. The average human today owns more possessions than ever before. Our calendars are booked weeks in advance. Our phones light up with notifications dozens—sometimes hundreds—of times per day.
“Complicated relationship” may be an understatement.
That is why we chose simplicity as the theme for this issue of Simplify Magazine.
Webster’s Dictionary defines simple as “uncompounded”—not mixed with anything unnecessary. Pure. Focused.
Perhaps that is the invitation before us: a life cleared of distraction, excess, and divided priorities so what matters most can stand strong.
In this issue of Simplify Magazine, we explore simplicity from every angle—our homes, our calendars, our beliefs, our values, and even our attention. Our contributors include bestselling authors, professional organizers, award-winning writers, podcasters, and experts who have spent years helping families live with greater clarity and intention.
You’ll find practical strategies for creating margin in your schedule, asking better questions about your possessions, simplifying your beliefs, reclaiming your focus in a distracted world, and aligning your life with your deepest values. Each article offers thoughtful insight and practical application to help you remove what dilutes your life and strengthen what defines it.
As always, my hope is that you make the most of the one life you get to live.
With you on this journey,
